So anything anybody else can tell me about WiiConnect24? As I mentioned, I've been using it in like, Animal Crossing with no problems, but a couple of you mentioned receiving bricks from it?

Since Wiiconnect24 causes the Wii to be connected all the time it also updates whenever an update is available, and therefore theres no guarantee that update wont brick your Wii.
Of course, the risk is probably a lot lower now than it used to, since Nintendo doesnt seem to bother with new updates anymore. But you never know.

This is false.
YOU WILL HAVE TO ACCEPT THE UPDATE FIRST IN ORDER TO UPDATE.

Your Wii will never update by itself.

Never listen to youtube
Youtube guides are a nice idea, but they FAIL all to often. Stay on wiihacks, read the guides found here. Many guides become out dated, and could brick your wii. Be sure to ask questions if you do not understand something.
I feel insulted. I was the first one to document how to recover from a semi brick (with 3 methods) and I did it on fucking YOUTUBE! And the first one to test with down/upgrading.

Exatly. Also, the bricking occurs because of the heat, the arm processor is running at 100% the whole time in this so-called standby mode, without the fan running. Just check if your Wii gets warm in "standby mode".

I'd like to point out you can have WiiConnect24 enabled, but still have the Wii set to power off fully, rather than stand by. This way you'll still receive stuff from the service, but only when your Wii is actually switched on.

Well I typically power off my Wii entirely when I shut it down, by holding the button down. I only leave it on Standby when I'm looking for some Animal Crossing DLC. Are y'all saying that my habit to power it down completely has been secretly saving my Wii from bricking this entire time?
