Gaming how do you upgrade your weapon in Transformers: revenge of the fallen

I completed the main storyline and raised all my attributes to full but I've only unlocked one new weapon and that was near the start of the game

You get new weapons from the items randomly found in the levels that you have to scan. They kinda look like those bomb things.
