how do you ground yourself?

i want to be safe becasue i usually don't ground myself and might shock my computer because i have carpet upstairs i sleep there and i spend almost my time there but downstairs is wood where my computer is, so i don't want alot of static electricity otherwise i'm screwed.

i heard of this method of stretching your hand and clap it as hard as you can and the statc is gone, but does this really work? tell me some good ways to kep my grounded

thx

You don't really have to worry about shorting out your PC by static. Its only when touching sensitive components like CPU's that you have to consider that.
You ground yourself by touching anything with a large metallic body or getting an antistatic belt.
