Homebrew how do you do homebrew on the wii?

No a chip is not needed, you can add homebrew through a copy of Zelda: Twilight Princess..

You can also add it through a chip though.. just go to wiibrew.org and read everything there!

Once you have added the homebrew channel you can add loads of homebrew games/utilities/applications etc. and use the backup launcher from wiigator/waninkoko to play your "backup" wii games or again you can just use a chip..

If your Wii is not modified with a drive chip, you will need Twilight Princess at least once. You can then install the Homebrew Channel, and (hopefully) not need it again.

If your Wii is modified with a drive chip, and the Wii firmware is at 3.2 or lower, you can burn a disc image from the link that jan777 provided. This method does not require Twilight Princess.
