Gaming How do i create a fully functional Minecraft map???

I mean, i need my (empty) map to show my actual map, and to guide where i'm standing... but i really don't know how to create such a map. the only thing i have is an empty map. If you understand my question, help would be VERY appreciated!!

However, you can't just create a filled map, you have to actually move around to generate the information displayed on the map.
