like usb advance for the ps2.

we chould put our wii iso's onto a usb drive than, use a loader to load one up.

would it be faster than the wii's dvd drive??

it would help save our wii's dvd eye drive from dieing out, from dvd+r's.

any how tell what you all think, of my cazy idea.

Its been discussed.
My understanding is that wii currently limits usb speed to 1.0.
Once 2.0 is unlocked i hope someone does this!

look at the difficulties that the software loaders are having reading from a disc... and try to imagine how far we are from software that loads iso's from usb/hdd/flashdrive. An external HDD costs a lot more than a spool of dvd's. Use those, no reason to fantasize about an hdd loader just because it'd be cool

It seems to be a little more complicated as one might think. Wii aplications are able to read from usb, but such a thing like a USB loader has to be done in the IOS, where you can't access USB and sd card as easy as in wii applications.

USB advance for the PS2 isn't something to aspire to - it's incredibly bad/useless.

That has to do with the USB ports of the ps2. They are USB1.1 hardware, which means they are limited to 10 Mbit/s. The Wii has USB2.0 ports, which are capable of 480Mbit/s data transfer rate, but nobody has written the driver for this, because its really complicated. I heard some people are working on this, lets hope for the best.

Exactly.

If it was compared to windows loading a game from HD then fine but usb advance is so bad it's unfunny.

HDL otoh is excellent. =)

"Hab dich lieb otoh"? What? I don't understand.

You said that usbadvance is shit because the PS2 is USB1.1 so I said exactly. I then went on to explain that if he had compared it to a windows PC running games from an external (which I missed out, my mistake) HD would've been better.

I then went on to say HD Loader on the PS2 is a fantastic piece of software (and additionally I hope the wii can at some point have it's DVD drive replaced with a hard drive, like the GCN).

I still don't understand "HDL otoh", sorry for my tranlation of HDL, i couldn't resist. Lets just wait and see, all people willing and capable of this will do it, but it takes its time.

I think HDL translating to "I love you" is a german thing.

So he proabably won't get the joke.

What that otoh means I don't know either.

Edit:
Ah now I get it "on the other hand"! ^^

Funny thing, I was actually talking to Requiem earlier today about a EHCI IOS module.

requiem4d...purely hypothetical and do not reflect what is or is not possible, only theory.

The hardware is 2.0. EHCI is almost certainly possible. We'd like to be the ones to deliver it. If we can't be, we hope our tools are useful to whomever does.

I normally wouldn't respond like this, but you quoted me out of context. I was referring to IPC trap & redirect, not to EHCI.

In any case, we would need a new filesystem (ext3 possibly) and we'll need to implement the whole thing in IOS. It's probably not the best way to do things.

I think once it is done... Alot more of us will be happy the way our Wii's sound like they are thrashing about playing games.. To me this would give the Wii a substantial increase in it's lifespan. So, in my opinion, if all the bugs are ironed out and this becomes a reailty...who would complain?! I know I would be the first to go out and get a dedicated HDD for my Wii...

...daydreaming....The Ultimate WiiBackup Launcher HDD Edition v.# Gamma - A Wii Emulating itself, so to speak. Now that's exactly what I am talking about. (Remember I am just dreaming!)
