About a year ago I tried my hand at converting an Xbox 360 component cable into one usable on the original Xbox.
My soldering isn't professional-grade by any means, but I've checked my leads with a multimeter and nothing is bridged, and is grounded properly.

These are the instructions I followed:

Somewhat consistently, a minute or two after turning the Xbox on with this DIY component cable, the Xbox will suddenly reboot on its own, and when it's back on again it's only outputting sound, no video at all. I can hear that it loads into UnleashX fine when using the controller.

Before it reboots, the 720p video output works flawlessly. Turning the Xbox off and on doesn't help.
It's almost as if my cable has a mind of its own. It works, until it doesn't, and works again later.

My Xbox is a PAL v1.1, with video mode set to NTSC using NKPatcher, softmodded with Rocky5's softmod installer.
I can upload some pictures of the cable sometime this weekend, just don't have it on hand right now.

Anyone have a lead on what the issue may be?
Cheers.

TBH you are better just getting a Xbox2HDMI v3 adapter, they are cheap as chips.

I made one with wii2hdmi adapter, but that was before I knew that the xbox2hdmi cable was available.

Are the wires soldered to the correct pinouts?
Aye, at least they seemed to be. Checked them with a multimeter on both ends, nothing crossed. Will have an image up when I get to the cable sometime next week.

Is what I'd recommend to most people as well, so I appreciate your pointer. However, it doesn't ship to Norway so getting it cheap as chips is not exactly an option.. =)

Don't you have any friends in another country that they could ship it to, and then the friend can send you it?

Just to confirm, do you have any kind of official cables to test with and make sure there isn't a fault with the console?

I think at that point it's not really "cheap" anymore, and I'd rather keep trying to make this hobby project work. Cheaper, more fun, and I get something useful out of it. Honestly, with my personal finances it's not even cheap to begin with, but I agree it's a good price for what you get.

Ah good catch, composite video out with stereo audio works just fine!
I also have an unmodded 1.6 unit I know has working composite output that I can test with when I have access to it next week.

Given the timing, I'm wondering if it might be heat related? Does it feel hot when rebooting?

I'll definitely make sure to check that when I can! Hell, I really should re-paste both my boxes anyways... I'm sure it's bone-dry under those heatsinks.
Gameplay is stable with composite video. Do you think simply using component output might make the components significantly warmer?
