i have been useing the gateway card with my old3ds it on v 4.3.0-4e,can some one tell me what method i should be looking at to get the homebrew channel and what apps i need.

Then install B9S (you can use this method: https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(mset) or this method: https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(browser))
You can't get access to homebrew on 4.3 firmware (needs to be 9.0 or above). You can install homebrew programs to your home menu but it would be easier to just get B9S.
