im looking at it really closely and it does not look broken
What exactly does not look broken?

If the camera application (and games supporting it) crash as soon as the camera hardware is needed/turned on, this is a strong indication for hardware damage (which doesn't need to have visible indication).
On the pro side: Replacing O2DS cameras is a lot easier than on every other model (no folding, no hinge).

Refer to ifixit.com for disassembly instructions. Careful with the screws: Garbage grade, soft metal -- they are easily stripped. On some consoles they are ridiculously tight. Use a good, fitting screwdriver and give it a light tap from above to make the tip of the screwdriver go fully into the screw head before turning.

Good luck and have fun!
