Thinking about installing arm9loaderhax + luma3ds on my 3ds but i'm still a bit confused about it.

A9LH is totally worth it. I use it myself and its great.
Provides brick protection, fast boot, 100% boot, and others.

I can confirm a9lh + luma is good.
I guess 3ds.guide is your best choice

oh and tip of advice, its easy to skip a line so try highlighting each line s you go through. and heed all warnings.
