Hacking Help with PS3 hacking

Hello!I have a 4.21 firmware PS3 and I would like to hack it -snip-.Also I would like to ask how to trasnfer the games from the PC to PS3 and if it will be able to play original games after it has been hacked.

However if i'm not mistaken there is a way to do it but involves flashing the bios on the motherboard, and that includes precise soldering which is above quite a few peoples comfort level.

There is a way to downgrade with a NAND/NOR flasher, but only on old consoles.
Consoles can't be downgraded less than their very first installed firmware version you had when you bought it new.

There's a homebrew which can be used to display up to which firmware the console can be downgraded. (works on non hacked consoles too).

u can find out with minverchk. it masks itself as a normal update file, so try to install it like a normal update. it will tell the console's base firmware. if it's 3.55 or below, u can downgrade with progskeet or e3 flasher (both hardware mods).

no. only hacked (custom firmware or cfw for short) can do .pkg's. only cfw can play downloaded games, only cfw can copy and play games. if you are above 3.55 you cannot i repeat cannot hack your system without a hardware based flasher. if your system cam out of the box with an official firmware (ofw) higher then 3.55 then you cannot downgrade at all.

if someone else knows any different please by all means correct me. i don't follow the ps3 scene very close.

Ok thanks a lot and I'm sorry for the many questions but I am a newbie Should I update to the latest firmware so I can download some stuff from PSN or is there any chance it will be hackable in the next months or so?

I'm still on 3.41 Official firmware.

So you can't know the future.
but it's less likely that there will be other custom firmware without either a key leak (will never happen) or a new discovered flaw to bypass encryption/signature on a retail unit (don't expect that, but only time will tell).
