so a few friends of mine have the game, i tried it and kind of like it, but the thing is, before i buy it i want to know how multiplayer works considering its the main reason i want to try to get into it. am i forced to be online 100% of the time for it? any kind of lan support would be great, but the thing is, does it require steam only for matchmaking? ive done *some* research and it states its just p2p for multiplayer, i just want to know if we can play locally without the need to connect to steam? or can things like tunngle/hamachi work?

It does not use LAN. You have to connect online in the beginning, but you can create a private room with just yourself. If you drop offline, you lose the SOS flare function to get help mid-mission. Otherwise you have to be always online and connected to Capcom servers.

Playing with friends is generally quite easy as you can see what rooms they’re in and just enter those rooms (limited to 16 per room iirc).
