Hi all,

I've just bought a pre-owed New 3DS XL with CFW installed. It's running version 11.6.0-39E. I've got the following icons:

The Homebrew Launcher;
FBI;
NTR CFW;
NTR (blue rocket picture);
Unnmaed icon with what looks like blue Kirby;
Unnamed icon with an SD card on it;
Anemone 3DS Theme Manager;
Unnamed icon with a flag;
CIAngel;
FreeShop.

Which of the above do I need? I've only used the FreeShop, so I don't know what the rest do. The latter is occasionally freezing my console with a black screen (post-installation usually).

Some questions:

How do I keep the CFW updated?
Can I wipe it back to factory settings?
Can I remove the previous owners NNID?
I have a 'blank' icon on my homescreen which does nothing. How do I delete it?

Thanks!

2. Can I wipe it back to factory settings?

Homebrew Launcher - Used to launch homebrew in .3dsx format
FBI - Used for installing .cia files
NTR CFW - allows streaming the 3ds screen to PC and a few other things
I guess the "blue Kirby" icon is Luma3ds updater (Luma3ds is the custom firmware)
Anemone - Used to install custom themes
Checkpoint (the flag icon) - Used to backup and restore saves
CIAngel - I think it does something similar but not as well as freeshop

1. You can use the updater or download a new release from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/ and copy boot.firm to the root of your SD card
2. Yes, but you'll need to follow this: https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup to reinstall your homebrew apps
3. Yes. By formatting or following this: https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting#removing-an-nnid-without-formatting-your-device

@Uumas That you!

When I asked about factory, I actually meant to remove all CFW and start again. Is that possible? Will the link you sent me to just tidy it all up and make sure it's all okay?

If you want to remove all CFW, you can follow this guide. https://3ds.hacks.guide/uninstall-cfw Then you can go to the settings then other settings, then go to the last page so you can reset it to factory settings.

There is a way to get rid of the blank icon but if you want to format you can just do that and it will be gone. It's possible to return completely to stock but there really is no reason to and if the previous owner installed something special uninstalling cfw might brick the console and you'd need a ~20$ flashcard to recover. What I'd recommend doing if you really don't want to use cfw is this:

1. Download the latest Luma3ds release 7z and get the boot.firm and put it in the root of your sd.
2. Download this: https://3ds.hacks.guide/gm9_scripts/setup_ctrnand_luma3ds.gm9 and put it to /gm9/scripts folder on your sd.
3. Put the sd back in the 3ds and boot while holding start. It should boot to GodMode9
4. Press the home button and select scripts
5. Select “setup_ctrnand_luma3ds”
6. Accept everything it asks by pressing A or inputting the key combo it asks for.
7. Press start to reboot the console
8. Format it normally through system settings

These instructions assume everything is set up in an usual way on the console so if something doesn't work just ask for further assistance. After that you should still have cfw installed but there shouldn't be any signs of it unless you use some specific key combos to access a cfw menu.
