Hi GBAtemp. I've been trying to burn Ubuntu Mate onto a 7GB DVD-RW. My computer lists it as RW, but when I try to format it, it still says that it only has ~200 MB available out ot 7GB, as if some hidden files were taking up space. (which they arent, mind you, i checked)

Any ideas? Or am I just stupid and DVD RW CDs aren't eraseable?

Here's a quick pic to give some insight:

No idea what "dual-layer" is, friend. It was just laying around in my room from an old installation disc from a pirated version of Naruto Shippuuden: Full Burst.
Does it actually say "DVD-RW" on the disc??

Dual layer means that the DVD has two layers that data can be written to. Disc capacity is capped at roughly 4.7GB, with a dual layer it's a little over 8GB

the disc itself is whire, but when popped into the PC it shows up as DVD RW.

Dual Layered DVD are generally labeled as "DL" at the end of, say DVD+R and that is usually 8.5GB. They're no multiple write double layer DVD, so this means the disk can be written only one time. Also the disk may have been finalized to prevent any additional writing to the disk. Although when using an RW disk (keep in mind I have not used Linux to burn disk) you need to zero out the disk, usually found in a burning utility labeled as "full erase".

As far as i have seen there are no re-writable dvd dual layer media. It seems you have the a dvd -r DL its a write once disc. you made a coster. take of the pic of the disc so i can see the label
