Well basically, I played too much Ouendan, and I broke the touch screen on my DS. About two days after my two year best buy replacement plan expired. Yea - ironic, I know.

So now, I need a new one. Now I heard about the problems that some ppl had flashing the DS Lite and the problems of the cracked hinges.

So I will leave the choice to you GBATempers.

Replies are not necessary, but appreciated.

So pick - the tried and true Phat DS or the pretty but fragile Lite.

Keep in mind that whichever I'll get, I'll end up flashing it.

edit: Spelling errors...

I'd go with the lite since a Phat costs the exact same new (at least up here!).

First up. Cracked hinges. This problem has been fixed LONG ago I believe. It's not a problem anymore.

With flashing, while I haven't done mine because I'm sure some freak accident will happen just like it did with DS Phat, it should be really easy if you just insulate your tool with some electrical tape/a straw/paper.

Lite

goods

- brighter screens
- smaller
- nicer buttons
- bottom label doesn't peel
- dust cover for gba slot
- extra stylus
- better battery

cons

- hard to keep clean
- speakers are as loud (I believe, but just barely)

DS Lite for sure, no reason not to get one now. I had the DS Lite since it's release in Canada and I haven't had any problems. No cracked hinges, no nothing. *knock on wood*

Just don't treat it like a rock and throw it around and you'll be fine

DS Lite Wins...

The screens are so much better and brighter...

I bought a second lite because I was embaresed handing someone the phat to play multiplayer in bars...

Flashing a lite is no big deal after carefully reading the GBAtemp guide...

Well I was gonna buy the Supercard DS (cause I have a supercard and I've never had a single problem with it) but when I heard about some issues (like trouble patching 1Gb games) I immediately decided to wait for a review.

Ds lite.
Looks better overall and better screen.
Also flashing Ds lite is a piece of cake just did mine today.

I bought my G6 Lite with a Passcard 3 and to me it seemed like the Passcard 3 was using up a lot of battery. It pretty much halved the life of my battery, so I decided to flash. I'm glad I did because it's really simple and there's no draw backs. You can use sleep mode (put a game or dummy cart in slot-1), you can have all the brightness levels, full battery, etc.
