And to contradict randomizer, I'd say all things being equal go for the Dell. They usually have a bit better look and feel and a higher quality keyboard and screen (both important for a gaming laptop).


Either way make sure you thoroughly read the reviews for both, as that will give you abetter case-by-case understanding of how good either model is. You can easily end up with the one rotten egg from a good manufacturer or the gem from a bad manufacturer - or a specific option can make all the difference.

And yeah, not gonna add any further comments about Dell, better that way. I'll just say the reason they're so popular is because more people buy them and typically have a higher rate of failure, but I digress. There's a reason my old Lenovo laptop still works since 2011.

Alright I ended up settling on the Dell laptop. It saves me a couple hundred while being able to buy a brand new Bluetooth speaker and just the same in performance. The ssd included really had me lean towards it more for faster boot up times and not having to spend money adding one on the helios300. Really appreciate the help guys, if I was more interested in the appearance I would have went with Acer Asus or an alienware but I' content.

I was gonna pitch in my two cents, but it'd been a reason not to go with Dell machines, but I'd best refrain from voicing my opinions on why Asus and Acer are typically more reliable. But yeah...

As someone who worked for Dell tech support and the firsthand experience I've had with faulty machines, I'd personally avoid Dell like the plague and go with Asus or Acer *shrug*. Even my six year old
Lenovo IdeaPad still works.

I think that your perception is biased just a bit BECAUSE you worked in a customer support center; most of the calls you'd be getting would be to complain about machine failures, whereas the number of calls that you got were probably a pretty low percentage of Dell owners

I'm still not the biggest fan of them, there've been lists where they say Dell computers typically have higher rate of failure compared to other brands. But whatever, I knew it to be a mistake to voice my opinion on it.

i wouldn't recommend going towards Acer. Horrible customer support in my opinion. both my laptop and my brothers were almost out of warranty and then kept us waiting till it was too late.

Acer Predator Helios 300 + Dell i7577-5241BLK-PUS

• 15.6inch display 1920x1080
• Both rock a GTX 1060 6gb (I think the Dell is rocking the mobile version)
• I5-7700HQ CPU
• 8gb DDR4 RAM
• 1TB HDD (not sure the speed)

I was leaning towards the Dell since it it is on Amazon for 899 with an additional 128gb SSD

Have one of these, runs pretty well. Also, the Helios *does* come with a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD in addition to the 1TB HDD. Well, mine did anyway. It also came with 16GB of RAM instead of 8, and it can be upgraded to 32. I would like to have one more video output on the thing but oh well. A single HDMI port will have to do.
