Currently I am renting a gaming laptop, this Alienware 15 r3. It's a really capable laptop and I am able to play all my games so far high settings 1080p and Emulators like Cemu at 60fps no drops.
$50 a week us easy for me, total to buy out is 2,000, not so easy.

I searched Amazon and I found two comparable devices with in theory should match the performances but don't know which to get. I could honestly care less about RGB components but I would like the laptop to load fast and/or run without lag on Windows after three boots.

These are what I found.
Acer Predator Helios 300 for $1,049 or Dell i7577-5241BLK-PUS $899

What do you guys think?

Would you mind posting the specs of both? (CPU, GPU, RAM, and hard drive type/speed)

I'm a little busy right now and it'd be nice to see them side-by-side

Acer Predator Helios 300 + Dell i7577-5241BLK-PUS
  • 15.6inch display 1920x1080
  • Both rock a GTX 1060 6gb (I think the Dell is rocking the mobile version)
  • I5-7700HQ CPU
  • 8gb DDR4 RAM
  • 1TB HDD (not sure the speed)
I was leaning towards the Dell since it it is on Amazon for 899 with an additional 128gb SSD

Yeah, sounds like the Dell's the way to go, in terms of raw specs. Any reason you'd want to pay extra for the Acer? (Aesthetic, weight, screen panel type, etc.)
The design looks awesome but as I said the price is the way to go but Idk if certain manufactures have different hardware/software that makes the computer good or bad.
just get a desktop imo
Already have a custom built PC.

Different manufacturers might load up the computer with bloatware, which might slow it down in the long run, but you can just do a clean install of Windows when you get it to wipe those. As long as you keep drivers up to date, you should be fine

What I intend to do, than install and update drivers I only need.
This will make me sound like a hypocrite, but...
A FUCKING GAMING LAPTOP? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I work a night shift, sometimes I get a lot of time to do nothing so I get on a gaming laptop to kill sometime. I can also get some editing done when I'm not home.

Oh. That is the first time I've seen a valid reason.

You seem to be on the Internet quite often. If this is the first "valid reason" you've seen.. I have to question where you've... Nevermind, I really don't want to know.

The neat thing about the 10 series GPUs from Nvidia, is you'll find the "desktop variants" in laptops as well. So, no m series GPUs.

I was super confused about what you were going on about, but then I clicked "Show ignored content" and everything made sense

Thanks for the free gift.
Time to give it back!

A gaming laptop isn't too much of a bad idea now. GPU prices are way too high, so much so that in some places it's better to get a prebuilt.

You do realise this is not meant for gaming at all, do you?
Even my 10 year old Thinkpad beats this.

Sorry, but I think that checking the outlet for deals was a good suggestion. They have some laptops in the same range as the one in the opening post.

I was gonna pitch in my two cents, but it'd been a reason not to go with Dell machines, but I'd best refrain from voicing my opinions on why Asus and Acer are typically more reliable. But yeah...

As someone who worked for Dell tech support and the firsthand experience I've had with faulty machines, I'd personally avoid Dell like the plague and go with Asus or Acer *shrug*. Even my six year old
Lenovo IdeaPad still works.
