Hacking Question Help: lost backup but new switch

Hi, (first post here mostly been a silent lurker - forgive me if I mess up somehow)

Essentially, I purchased a used switch that was vulnerable to the Fusee Gelee exploit. After setting it up (without connecting to the internet), I was going to mod my switch, and naturally I made a clean virgin NAND backup to a 128gb micro sd. Then, I decided to boot into Atmosphere CFW and just check out some homebrew apps ( only ever opening them.). At this point I thought I'd start my emunand creation so I can use the switch online for games like smash and tinker around offline in a safe environment. As such, I mistakenly load into sx and select the hidden sd portion option which formats the card (..and my backup). I cancelled the whole process 3% in when I realised my NAND backup was on the card but it was already too late. All the data had been wiped.

Now I am without a backup and I've already accessed cfw and homebrew but since getting this used switch it hasn't connected online. I think the owner said he only used it for ~100 hours although I imagine he did at some point connect to the internet.
Do I have any hope? And if so what do I do?

It doesn't matter if the previous owner did or not connect to the internet. The issue is that the Switch collects metrics which are then checked by the Nintendo server. If anything flag worthy is noticed (clean error/system logs, unrecognized apps that were booted, apps that were running without the user account having purchased them, etc.), the system takes the unique certificate of your Nintendo Switch, and blacklists it, banning you from all services. So next time you connect to the internet, there's a very real risk of you getting banned.

Just create another backup. The main purpose of making a backup is to make a restore point for your Switch in case you brick it (there's always a chance if you choose to use cfw), not to save your console from getting ban especially when you buy used unit.

What he saying is, you should have backed up your backup. Standard practice.

It would still be a good idea to make a new backup from a recovery prospective in the event that you have an issue. It just won't be pre-CFW preventing a ban (maybe you get lucky)

Ah well guess I'm going to have to cut my losses with a clean backup then. But thanks for pointing out that I should make another backup (and back it up afterwards as well).

It wont be that bad. Super minimal amount of information left on the SysNAND. Possibly none at all. Do we know this? The only NAND I've written to is my EMUNAND, before that I ONLY used XCI. The only thing that I've done is load CFW.

I'm pretty darn sure that my SysNAND is clean.

Ah well guess I'm going to have to cut my losses with a clean backup then. But thanks for pointing out that I should make another backup (and back it up afterwards as well).

I would'nt worry about it much. Especially if your situation is like mine above. If you've never touched the SysNAND, should be basically clean....
