Hacking Help for a tech idiot! R4 question

Ok, so I accidentally updated my son's DSi XL whilst trying to download a free game from the web store (I realise now that this is how they get you!) and now none of our R4 cards work. I have Googled endlessly and downloaded about a hundred kernels and firmware upgrades but nothing seems to work.

Now after reading heaps of forum threads I am thinking that maybe the cards are too old?? Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for to be able to confirm this??

I have 4 cards, 3 x R4i 3DS and 1 x R4i V1.4.3 though I am not sure any of this information is useful to be able to answer my question?

Sorry for the mixed up message but this stuff is not my forte (the things we do for our kids!) and I don't want to waste any more time on it if I have to buy a new card!!

what is the websites stated on the card?

and do you mean DSi or 3DS?
didnt realize there was a free DSi game offer at the moment

It was on a sticker that came with his DSi XL. Might be specific to the store I got it from? We don't have a 3DS....YET!
