Hi. I'm looking for a DS flashcard and I would like to know your opinion on which one is best. I'm thinking on buying from shop01media and they have lots of R4's (http://www.shop01media.com/index.php?route=product/manufacturer/info&manufacturer_id=9) and the DSTWO and DSTWO plus.
I'm only interested in DS roms since I already have homebrew access (on both O3DS and N3DS), but I've read that the DSTWO is still a better option.
    Thanks in advance:)

The DSTwo is the best flashcard. (The DSTwo+ is the same except the Gateway Emulation plugin)

But if you need just DS roms, any cheap R4 will be ok.

If you are only interested in the DS Roms DON'T GET A DSTWO OR DTWO+.

They have an extra chip that drains sthe battery faster in order to run GBA/SNES at good speeds.

Get a R4i Gold 3DS instead, they are good quality and cost about $15.

The DStwo (and PLUS) do drain the battery faster than anything, but there is no better GBA compatibility than with the Plus version. @Tony_93 they aren't exactly the same thing. The original can't play Golden Sun past the first dungeon without crashing. The plus can complete the whole game and has a newer (and faster) CPU.

BUT... I agree that the battery drain is not worth it if you don't want to play GBA and/or emulators, video players, etc... and you should avoid the temptation to launch Gateway mode with it if you don't have a hard mod and nand backups.

At the moment for all intents and purposes the DSTwo+ (in DS mode) and DSTwo standard are the same thing. The SNES and GBA emulation speed and game compatibly on the DSTwo+ is the same as the old DSTwo. You can still only set the processor speed in the emulators to a maximum of 396mhz, which isn't good enough to run Snes and GBA at full speed without frameskip. TempGBA and CATSFC would need updated and recompiled to utilize any updated hardware.

@DarK_DragoN, if it's just for DS games, along with @Technicmaster0 and @Tony_93 I'd recommend the R4i Gold 3DS RTS (r4ids.cn). Packaging looks like this:

We all know there was a first cart that started it all and tgey went out of bussines long ago.

But many "clone" manufacturers or whatever you want to call them, build their own carts, release their own firmware for them and have their own name...

    DSTWO
    R4iTT
    R4i Gold 3DS
    etc...

And then there are the ones that release carts with really crappy materials, rip other manufacturer's kernels and even have identical cart designs aimed to make people believe they are buying another flashcart, then break in a month or two because they are utter crap...

    So my comment still holds...

not Really all the R4 cards after the orginal were clones of other cards

    DSTWO isnt a clone
R4iTT - Clone of the DSTT
    R4i Gold 3DS - Literally a gateway clone

Literally all of the R4 cards you see today are clones of the following brands

    DSTT (had many also)
    R4 (original)
    CycloDS
    SuperCard
    Acekard (had so many clones)
    Gateway

may have missed like 1 branded team

basically if its an R4 they are copying all of the brands above

also nice crapfest on internet lol

Seriously? It's come so far that the R4i Gold 3DS gets titled as a Gateway clone? That's not correct.
First, there was Acekard R.P.G. with an open-source kernel.
Then there was yellow wood goblin who continued developing this kernel, with official support for R4i Gold 3DS RTS (r4ids.cn) among other cards.
Then there was Ace3DS who copied the wood kernel from r4i gold.
Then there was Gateway who probably bought cheap Ace3DS PCBs and sold them together with their red card.

The R4 team wasn't really the first Slot-1 flashcard, but it was the first popular one.

Small question, are there still non-R4 cards, except Supercard DSTwo?

I was a Supercard fan with my DS Lite lol, I had a Supercard DS One v3(SDHC). Great card, sadly there is no way to make it work on 3DS.
DS2 is too expensive for just playing DS games and launching some HB.
R4 are only clones and I tend to avoid clones.

Is it still possible to find some Acekard, Cyclo, M3, EZ, ... legit cards?

Yes, but most if not all of those were blocked before the 3DS ever came out, so you'd have to use them on a DS/DS lite/DSi (some blocked before DSi).

I had that one. It was DOA (dead on arrival). Don't recommend it. Everywhere I read it said that there's a high chance of such incidents. It's also flimsy as fuck, with extra thin plastic, and it's on the more expensive side too for such shoddy build quality.

Just get the cheapest one you can find. They're ALL knock-offs of the original R4 for the Nintendo DS, which was built in relatively low quantities and it was only on the market for something like 8 months. Sure, they are all knock-offs (or "clones"), but they're actually an improvement on the original R4, which never had RTS (real time saving), or any improved UIs or fixed stability issues.

r4i gold deluxe is gateway clone there are so many r4 golds hard to be specific which one you meant

    Yes acekard was opensource
Yes Wood R4 has official support for R4i RTS but thats only because at the time they had literally released the card as Wood R4i Gold before it specifically ran Wood they then made an RTS version.
Wood offically supported so many cards and unoffcially ran perfectly on so many clones years before the R4i Gold came out.
Cant really call the r4i gold orginal when the are running somone elses code which is massively updated for many devices they only have it offically because it only boots that specifically
Ace3ds copying r4i gold when the kernel is open source - Seems legit
Yeah gateway probably bought cheap Ace3DS pcbs but they were only using them to run gateway code, orignally like the PassMe cards
and yeah there were many flashcarts for DS most used PassMe and some used slot1 but R4 was the first Gen2 Slot1 card that served as a base i mean its a pretty solid card considering

Sorry, I ment the normal R4i Gold 3DS RTS without deluxe.

Wood R4 by YWG only has support for 5 cards or so (original R4, Acekard R.P.G, R4ids.cn, R4idns.com). The firmware even got a fake killer (which I think is the main reason why all later Ace3DS+ cards weren't updateable). Only the original, not modified kernel is open source. The changes by Yellow Wood Goblin are not. Ace3DS hacked the anti copying measures and took the kernel.
I think that e.g. the DS-Xtreme or the DS Link were earlier than the R4 but that was before my time in the scene.

Did you actually read my post? They do NOT have the same compatibility. I don't know if it's because of the extra RAM available to the plus or not, but you can play Golden Sun all the way through. You just can't on the original or any other flash card. also:

"Compared to DSTWO, DSTWO PLUS has 4x the Flash and 2x the CPLD power."

Tell me what game has lag (be as specific as possible... during a video sequence, or during a battle, etc...) and I'll try on both to see if there is a difference, but the CPLD might also improve speed as well.
