Hi there, I am from Brazil and just got accidently into a forum post and decided to subscribe.

I got sick of social media and modern internet and has been looking for old school forums to have real interactions over common interests, without anything about your profile, pictures, followers, etc no importance in the discussion at all.

So I found it here, which seems to be a nice and active community.

I was X360 player for years but as I got older, work and stuff, I stopped playing video games.
Now I got older consoles (PS1, PS2 and N64) and am interested in playing some classics I missed, running mods or simple hacking into and playing with these things.

Besides that I'm into homelabbing, music, movies etc.

Thank you and nice to meet you all.

Bem vindo! Brazil is my favourite country. Granted I've only ever been to the state of Rio de Janeiro but the places I visited there were wonderful. Rio city, Niteroi, Angra does Reis and Saquarema. I've been twice and I'm planning another trip this year, I miss the black beans so much and the coxinha and pão de queijo bring me so much happiness. Super excited to go again!

Woah, that's great! I am from São Paulo state but have been to Rio, awesome beaches. Coxinha and pão de queijo are really highlights of our cuisine, glad you liked it. I wonder of knowing the UK too, specially going to the football stadiums, festival concerts and the landscape from Wales and Scotland as well.

UK is shit lmao. It's mostly grey with cities and shitty weather. The lake district is nice though, if you ever do visit stick to Cumbria. London is also overrated unless you wanna spend a lot of money and get robbed. I'd love to visit Sao Paulo. My plan is to go to Ilhabela in the near future. I'm gonna be moving to Brazil hopefully within the next few years to open a clinic for mental health services so I want to explore a bit more to decide where I want to go. At the moment I'm thinking Niteroi but from what I've seen of Ilhabela online it is really making me think hard. I know you have to get a boat to and from the island but that sounds heavenly to me lol. Plus with a chunk of the Atlantic Forest there it just seems so perfect.

Look up whatever the latest HDD loading soft mod is, grab yourself an external HDD and ploooooooow away!

I don't think London can be more dangerous criminally than São Paulo or Rio, so we are kind of used to being very cautious on not being robbed. But yeah, Brazil is a beautiful place regarding nature and weather. But unfortunately with poor public services, high crime rates and everything is expensive. At least we have SUS, which is inspired on your NHS, unlike folks from US who have to go bankrupt if they get sick. But I love it here and the people.

Ilha Bela is great! I went there once, and loved it. Just be cautious with the mosquitoes there (a lot more than other cities).

I was born in Metropolitan São Paulo but left when I went to college. I'd recommend not living on the capitals, since it is more expensive and just more chaotic. But is convenient to live miles nearby. Ilha Bela is relatively in the middle of Rio and São Paulo.

If you have any further questions about living here etc. just let me know!

I got a FAT one and I love it! But one day the disc driver stopped working properly, I tried cleaning it and I fucked up. It stopped working at all (even with DVDs and CDs). Also, I might have destroyed the modchip since the Matrix Infinity screen stopped showing up on the startup. So I should be checking the modchip first and then look into stuff like OPL, but I'm still a newbie into that. Thanks for the advice!

Just get yourself a freemcboot ps2 memory card, a sata network adapter and ofc an hdd/ssd, and you'll be playing ps2 games from the hdd in no time!

Thanks dude!

Woah, so in this case, no modchip is actually needed?

Awesome ahahahah thanks!!!!

Not at all, you can install FreeMcBoot onto a memory card and load all of your games on a hard drive. But if you're going to play burned/imported PS1 games, a modchip is definitely recommended. POPStation sucks.

Correct. i mean if the laser is still working, you can burn a dvd with only ulaunchelf on the disc, so that you could make your own freemcboot memory card, if you don't want to get one (PS2 MC) that has it already installed that is.

If he's going to do it once just with this one ulaunchelf disc, it's nothing to worry about, otherwise yea

I don't if its the laser, but since I can not read any disc for now, probably that's it. It is needed to read a disc in order to create a FMCB memory card? Because if that is the case, I can use a ps2 slim from a friend to make the FMCB.

You have to access ulaunchelf atleast once, which is like a file explorer for the PS2, to copy the freemcboot to the PS2 memory card, once you set it up the PS2 should boot straight to freemcboot with the mc, and you can use it to launch any other homebrew like ulaunchelf, opl etc

and oh, btw, if you have a ps2 sata adapter and an hdd right now, you can install FHDBoot on the hdd without the of freemcboot. FHDBoot is basically freemcboot installed on the hdd, so you'd boot straight to FHDBoot without any ps2 memory card. you can do this whenever you want, after you setup your freemcboot memory card or not if you don't want to. it all depends on how you want to go about it.
One more thing to consider tho, is that since you have a modchip, Matrix or else you may have to disable it on every boot, yes it's essential otherwise you simply can't access frrehdboot. freemcboot on the mc should work without the need to disable the modchip.

dude, thank you for all the info, I had no idea. So the sata adapter is the best way to go if playing games from a drive, right? The usb ports in the front of the console would not be able to run games from a flash drive, for example?
