welcome. there aren't much trolls around here.
HERP DERP I'M RETARDED.
Show some restraint on the amount of images/videos you post. Posts or topics with many images are a strain on dial-up users, so please be courteous.
Actually un-played YouTube embeds use up less than 100 KB. Thats less total KB of your Avatar+Sig should be according to your rules. And posting multiple times on one page just multiplies that number. Unplayed Youtube Embeds use up a very small amount of information (as most flash engines often do). The big-chunk of Youtube embeds that take up the most information are the generated image previews.
Now... if you happen to press Play, the video will begin to load. Dial-up user or not, that's the VIEWER's consent. It is totally their choice to load up a 5, 10, 50, 100 MB video by pressing the play button. Looking over the data usage of un-played embeds, and focusing directly on my video posting habbits, my videos are usually almost all the time, under 10 seconds. The Dr. Spaceman clip in particular, is just a teeny bit over 200KB for default 360p. Of course... Youtube also auto-detects a person's bandwidth if their connection are slow, and will load 240p, which is even less. So if a dial-up user only loads less than 100KB for the embed, and if they intentionally play the video, its only a measly 200KB video load.
That said, you can just shove your dial-up excuse somewhere else. You can also shove any "mobile" excuses, as phones that are capable of loading flash in-browser are often 3G or 4G phones that at the very bare minimum get atleast 4x better than dial-up speeds, and usually no less than 1/3rd of DSL speeds.
Also... like I really care for the thoughts or feelings of dial-up users even if I was posting high quality 2-5MB images, or like I really care about your thoughts and feelings about their thoughts and feelings. I have no intention of being couteous, but regardless of how annoying you think videos are, using dial-up users as an excuse just doesn't really count for anything when un-played embeds take-up so little. Here's a fun fact... If I take a screenie of any one youtube embed and crop out the embed and save it as a BMP or PNG through MSPaint, that image will take up more space than a Youtube embed.
I actually gotten into this argument quite a few times with Gaia admins about Youtube embed size in signatures to the point where they just gave up and just used the "because I said so argument" because their "100kb, 500x500pixel" signature rules couldn't be applied to Youtube embeds that just idly set there.
