I have been using this site for years but never signed up. This site has been very helpful for me so I thought I would sign up and see if I could help others. Also I have a question, when I am on the forum front-page it says under my name in the right corner that i have three messages. I cant seem to find them though, not in the inbox or anywhere that I can find.

Welcome once prime lurker now member, we hope you enjoy your stay . In addition if you want to see what you post, you have to go on your profile page, and there should be something named "Posting" under your name .

Hey man! I'm in the same boat as you. After years of reading things on this site, I figured I should actually sign up and see if I could help. Welcome! You should read the rules too. I almost broke a few by mistake.

Welcome. I think you mean the red alerts. That usually happens when people send you a message or when someone posts in a thread that you posted, from what I can gather. I just click on Alerts.

Ok there are two different message systems. One is, what you post are your messages count so the reason why you don't have any messages in your inbox is because that is not associated with your inbox, that is standalone.

The second one is, the only way you can get messages from your inbox is when you message somebody or when somebody message you. Who you message personally isn't a message count so that's also standalone.

The "Messages" is how many times you've posted. It's misleading, I know, I don't agree with the phrasing of it either but to be honest it's fairly minor.

My "Messages" count is 4,303, being how many posts I've made. I deal a lot in PMs but I sure as hell haven't made 4000 private messages lol.

Welcome to the forum mate! Please give the Terms and Rules a quick read if you haven't already, understanding the rules helps everyone get along a little better and helps make our jobs here just that much easier. And please remember, we absolutely do not permit discussion, hints, links to, etc, of where to find or how to get ROMs, ISOs, WADs, or any other form of warez or keygens, etc. Discussion of the matter is okay though, we all know they exist and we all know we each have our own little collection, just don't say where it came from

Alright I am in the process of reading the rules and thx everyone for trying to explain the message thing. Think I will just leave it at a mystery, since none of the answers have been exactly right. No offense intended, my message is still 3 but I have posted 4 times and created 2 threads. Not a big deal now that I know that it's not important

Your "Messages" count is correct. Posts in the "Introductions" subforum (what we're in right now) don't count towards your post count. Nor do ones in the Edge of the Forum. You've got two posts and one thread (which counts as a post) that actually count towards that number.
