I'm starting to think haxchi/CBHC could be the target of the combined frustration of thousands of cheapstakes burning inside at the mere thought of spending money for the VC DS title. Sometimes actual cheapstakes, sometimes just unable to make that purchase for a number of reasons. Let's hope this frustration doesn't lead some of them to claim false bricks (keep in mind that some of the people here are very, very young) or subconsciously commit missteps during the process because of the discomfort/stress. (that's totally a thing...rage, discomfort and entitlement while following a 10-minute WiiU method you paid for VS calm and patience while following a six hours long 3DS guide that's totally free)

Some could even secretly live in the fantasy that discrediting haxchi/CBHC will boost the efforts towards the further development of completely free solutions.

Thoughts?

This thread is also about fake news of bricks and irrational fears.

dude its 8 dollars and you are getting to pirate 1000s of dollars worth of games. Girls dont like cheapskates my friend let me tell you.

I would believe most people who really can't buy a VC game for Haxchi are kids with no access to credit cards, although they should still have access to eShop prepaid cards sold in local stores. But showing the potential to save tons of money by pirating games to their parents should be enough for them to accept buying that one VC game for their kid.

Kids shouldnt be stealing anyways.

Just look around GBAtemp or on 4chan or Reddit. Plenty of fear mongering and unsubstantiated brick claims (or people who bricked their console because they did something friggin' stupid, then blame CBHC for it). Yes, people are cheapskates. That's the long and the short of it. Sure, CBHC has the potential to brick your system, but there are so many things that explain how to avoid CBHC bricks, and it's mainly just using common sense to begin with. How people still brick their system is beyond me.

I didn't read any of the available guides to hack the WiiU, but do all of them list CBHC as an obligatory step in the hacking process? Because, really, it's not. Pressing the Haxchi icon once the console has booted will give the same result, CFW. It should be highlighted in the guides that CBHC is optional, and riskier than just Haxchi alone. Never heard of a single brick from a user running just Haxchi.

Setting the kids a bad example, aren't we? :P

I haven't seen a single (good) guide that says it isn't dangerous and isn't optional - they all clearly state that you don't need it and that it is risky, but they also tend to outline all the ways to avoid a brick with CBHC. The one I tend to stick to recommending is FlimFlam69's guide on Github (and you'll find most major Reddit or 4chan threads will link to at least parts of his guide, too).

You can brick with both Haxchi AND CBHC, but the latter is much easier to brick with. Both can be easily avoided though, and CBHC saves time, especially when you don't want to boot Haxchi every time you turn on the system. I've been playing my Wii U a lot lately, and I've been using CBHC since around Christmas (when I got my Wii U) with zero problems.

I took the risk and did the haxchi with the purchase of Brain Age. But the Coldboot warnings scared me away from completing the coldboot section, and I'm normally the one to take the risk and jump right in, not skipping a step. But I'm okay with launching haxchi manually upon power-on, it just takes a few more seconds. Hardly worth the brick risk, since I'm not the only user of this Wii U.
