I've been wanting to try and play Dragon Quest 3's SNES port since I don't currently have the money for the remake on Switch right now, but I've tried both the SNES9X emulator with slowdown in the game and the built in SNES emulator on my New 3DS with it outright refusing to work. I know there's a problem with emulating some SNES games that have external chips in the cartridges since I had similar issues with trying to play Thracia 776 and SMRPG until that got a special port. Does anyone know of a fix that I just haven't been able to find? Or maybe some special port like SMRPG? And if there is one, does it work for other SNES games with external chips?

I haven't heard of a special port of SMRPG before.

Does the ROM you are using work on an emulator on your PC?

Yeah it's a special app on 3ds, not specifically for any of the emulators.

And no, I haven't. I'll have to try that then. The one running off SNES9X I found as a QR Code so I can't do that one but I'll have to try that and get back to you. I remember hearing something about how the translation patch would have to have the partitions fixed maybe so that might be my problem.

The Dragon Quest 3 translation doesn't use special chips unless you use the canoe patch. What it does use is ExHiROM which some emulators like canoe (and most likely the official snes emulator) doesn't support which is why the canoe patch actually converts it to use S-DD1. If the translated Dragon Quest 3 rom is smaller than 48 megabits you might try the canoe patch to see if it works.

I'll have to see if that works, then I'll lyk
Perhaps you could provide a specific name of whatever it is you're thinking of? I'm not sure Google will get me anywhere.
I meant that SMRPG is it's own app for the 3ds port. Not for Dragon Quest 3
