I want to hardmod a regular n3ds that I have, is there a tutorial that really works?
I'm really good at welding, but I need some documentation.

EDIT: This is for backup the NAND and downgrade safely.

What do you want your 3ds to do that it doesn't? There isn't a point to hard mod for the sake of hardmodding. Do you want to get custom buttons or a custom thumb pad? Add a capture card or USB port so you can access the sysnand? Step one is find what you want to do. Then we can help.

You don't need a hard mod to back it up. You need a hard mod if the downgrade fails so you can put your backup back onto your console.

That's the reason of hardmodding, backup the nand before trying to downgrade and have a backup in case something goes wrong.

You can back up your nand without hardmodding. You can still back up your band without hardmodding as explained here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-the-emunand-save-data-mega-guide-gbatemp-doesnt-deserve.378491/ You should only hard mod if you end up with a brick. Yo you already have a cfw installed?

This is not correct. You can't back up the NAND without a hardmod unless you are already on 9.2 or lower.
wait, he's not on 9.2 or lower? @Lgzeto what is your firmware?

Of course not. He's already said he wants to downgrade.
*facepalm* I guess that was a logic error on my part. Do people running 9.2 ever want to downgrade to <4.5? That's what I thought he meant. If he's on higher than 9.2, I'm pretty sure he has to weld some wires to the motherboard to read/write. Haven't seen a tutorial though.

There's a video on YouTube which details the whole process for an XL:

And here is the pinout for the NAND chip on New 3DS:

https://3dbrew.org/wiki/Hardware#New_3DS

So if you are able to follow the video as a guide but use the solder points on the N3DS pinout then you should be able to achieve the NAND port installation.

I know how to downgrade and set a cfw, I have another n3ds regular model, but before 10.4 came out I got soft brick twice. So I'm not going to take the risk downgrading before a NAND backup.

I found a guide with the the same pinout, apparently it works. I'll give it a try.

Don't do a hardmod without having some experience, or at the very least ask a friend for help.

Hardmodding is arguably more dangerous than downgrading, if you don't know what you're doing.

EDIT: Sending it to someone is always an option, too.

You can find useful tutorials in my signature to make hard mod installation with micro USB socket.
