Handing a Switch with modchip

Good evening! A friend of mine gave me a modchipped Switch (which is also unpatched) with hekate and SXOS, since he asked me to upgrade everything... How do I update Hekate without messing it up, so I can put Athmosphere in it? It seems that it boots even without the SD card inserted. Sadly I don't know how to move around a modchipped Switch, as I only handed stuff with the jig, than else.

Actually, my friend didn't even make an emunand. He booted SXOS on his Sysnand. And yeah, I'd like to install Atmosphere in there
