According to the official SSBB website, you only get 3. EVER.

(By ever, I think they mean per save file...)

So I don't think they're obtainable in any other way...

Only 3, EVER? I find it hard to belive that, the game wouldnt put you in a situation where you couldnt unlock all of the content. I found one, used it on a random blue window, got a thropy

But yeah, those buggers are hard to get. The one I got was after I unlocked all the characters.

How would you be unable to unlock all of the content just because you can only have 3 hammers? I'm sure you can unlock it all without having a hammer, hammers are probably just for people who have their eye on a specific unlock they can't get or something.

Yeah hammers is when you get stuck, everything is normaly unlockable. If someone can speak moonspeak they could tell you what to do because it's say's how in the texts.
