It's called the "Jump" button.

Protip: The jump button can be used to evade oncoming projectiles in fighting games. No damage is taken when evading.
Okay, as having played sf4 since like 2009 i can tell you "just jump" is the worst advice you can give for this game. you have very few options in the air, some characters have no air game at all. most good projectile spammers are actually baiting you, they throw hadoken, you jump, they start you in a combo or even an ultra, or even a combo INTO ultra, and there goes your health.

just lost my win streak to some ass playing as akuma and randomly spamming Shakunetsu Hadoken....
and 100bp.....
DAMN you noobs, learn to play properly, capcom didnt make 10 freekin buttons for you to just press 1 or 2 over and over and over again!

If you don't want to lose to lag in WiFi, then don't play on WiFi or just play with your friends. Simple as that. Its frustrating but you're expecting too much on a Nintendo handheld. If you want the real SF experience, get it on a 360.

Do what works. Find something that can out spam them. And also, not every attack is useful. Why not abuse something that works?

This is kind of why I don't play pro mode online. With lag I'll throw a quick spin knuckle to evade projectiles only to throw a jab and get punished. Lite really helps with latency..

You act like Hadouken spamming is new. It's been around since Street Fighter 2 and it's not going anywhere because noobs who use it would rage.

spammers /guile/sagat turtles/ ken fags/button mashers, learn to adapt and get over them its all part of the game always has been always will be.

spamming also helps to piss people off and throw their game.

People who lose because of hadouken spam are even more noobs than the one doing the hadouken spam.
This. Hadouken spam is very punishable, after you "learn" how to play its really easy to punish poeple everytime they mess up, so only advice is to look up a guide about your main character's combos and strategies and just keep at it.

I just thought of this!

Nintendo should make an update, like an anti-spam update that detects spamming and fires sonic booms Hadoukens and fireballs from all angles at the spammer. that would be so rich!

Have you been reading the discussion? This advice is well and good for new players, but the issue is approaching. Guile for example doesn't charge flash kick and this severely limits approaching options.

The only real cure is to use characters with more tools to get in; or play on pro mode which is pretty demanding of players new to the series.

lol, yeah. played online three matches so far, the first one was in lite-mode and BAAAAAM, got a hadouken-spammer.

the other two matches i played in pro-mode and got my ass kicked, but both fights were by a narrow margin.

guess i have to practice more in arcade mode

Arcade mode doesn't help much. Learn your character's BnB (bread and butter) moves first (you can also learn some from the Challenge Trials. Get close to pulling it off like 80% of the time then start learning new chains. Then you play on Aracde mode to practice it. If you can pull it off on arcade mode, hop online and see if you can pull it off online.

I think people are doing this because it's fudging impossible to play against some people online when you're newish.
I haven't beaten a single person yet.

I admit I'm utter poop at fighting games, but that's because I don't like them and never play.

Spamming is not really a problem in the hands of noobs. Since that's all they know how to do is spam. Meaning you can still out fight them and beat them. It's the spamming and touch screen in the hands of a above average or pro fighter. They can use the spamming mixed in with strategy, and that's a problem. Still I find it a challenge to try and but them, and most of the time I can.

Just fought this player named akauma BP 1538 and he uses seth and does nothing but spam Fricking Soom Boom from cross other side and fought thru the first match and the 2nd match he just kept spamming it and hitting ultra combo and 3 match he repeated the process. I had face this pug three times in the pass with akuma and he did the spam thing just with Hadouken and he just a spammer...

i also fought some spammers right now. I always use Ryu and the other one also used ryu. I kicked his ass 10 times in a row (just fought again and again xD) and near the end, everything he did was hadouken and this twister thing xD I nearly never use hadouken (maybe 3-4 times in a 3 round match) and i'm somehow pissed by these spammers. if you fight against me (hunter291) don't spam, or I'll kick your ass xD
