Well, i have officially hacked my first console in years. The last time i did custom firmware was...the wii i believe. Its been quite some time.

I started Saturday night around 9pm with a stock 3ds xl on 10.5 and after about 5 HOURS of code, copying to and from SD cards, and a TON of trial and error, i finally had a fully functioning CFW 3ds. I'm quite happy with the results. I'm very glad i didn't have to purchase a flashcard for it, as that's definitely not my style.

I read in a bunch of places it was pretty much impossible if you were on 10.5, but apparently not.

So my question, what should i do next? I have luma, and FBI, and bunch of other tools installed. Can anyone point me in any cool directions?

Open FBI and go to TitleID (or something, should be a long list of homebrew apps) download Freeshop

For Freeshop you need to open it and go to settings, tick the automatically update cache and click the little QR button and google 3dstitlekeys and scan the QRcode for enctitlekeys.bin

This allows you to download free games directly from the eshop via freeshop :)

Well...
Freeshop to download any game (as long as you have the tickets as someone just stated above.).
JKSM to backup (import/export) saves.
BootNTR for console tweaks and hack/cheat plugins.

You can go and create cias for HomeMenu themes... etc etc etc.

Actually, I think the possibilities are endless.

Sounds like theres a good bit of things for me to try out. I could definitely get in to making a theme. I've always wanted to see my 3ds in orange/black. Is there any kind of guide explaining tickets anywhere? I'll do a search of course, but i'd imagine theres a LOT of info on it and if any of you guys know any good ones off the top of your heads that'd be great.

Could you elaborate a little on the keys? Do i use the QR scanner from the stock camera app? Do i need to move the file to the specified directory in freeshop, or does the qr code do it for me?

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
