Is it possible to play game backups using purely soft mods? Those jigs and whatnot are a first for me.

You still needs a jig for the first initial time going into RCM mode, after that you can use AutoRCM, the method isn't permanent.

If you are on 3.0.0 or 4.1.0 or maybe 5.0 or 5.1 in a few weeks u can use BrowserHAX

If you don't mind the risk, then you can use anything from a paperclip to tinfoil to get the console into RCM mode first, then enable AutoRCM. A jig is about $2 though so that really is recommended. Nothing else will be needed to purchase beyond that (well, a dongle will be useful but not essential).

1.0.0-3.0.0 already have browserhax+smhax. BrowserHax(2)+nvhax(+ nspwn on 4.x) will be usable on 4.0.0-6.0.1

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The only firmware that can currently be hacked through purely software is 1.0.0 by using the reboot to RCM pegaswitch script. CFW through purely software will be possible on 1.0.0-6.0.1 sometime in the future though

Also needed the game puyo puyo tetris for 1.0.0 unless there was another way to run reboot2rcm ?

Is there actually a $2 jig you can get fast though? Every $2 one I saw had a pretty long ship time, so I just bought a $9 one off amazon so I could get it in two days.

I ran 3.0 for the longest time before switching to auto rcm,i updated trough choixdujour so i can always go back

Anything thin enough that conducts electricity is fine. I used a freakin' fondue fork.
