Hacking Guitar Hero 5

I'm one of the many who can't get this to work. I've installed the wad, installed the IOS 222 with 37 36 merged, then 223 with 60 36 merged. It don't matter if on the usb loader setting I set it to 223 or 222 because they both give me a black screen for a min then my wii restarts. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm on Wankinkokos 4.1u firmware.

in order for it to work correctly with usbloaderGX

install 222 as 36
install 223 as 37 merged with 36

important, you need to set your default load for GX from 249 to 222 for them to work

I figured my earlier problem out with wiikey loading in disc channel. I had to remove the Force Disc Region startpatch hack.

Also, in order to get it to load in USB Loader GX, I had to change the Video Mode to system default instead of Force NTSC while using hermes cios 36 merged with 37.

Or, I just realized I could set the VID Patch to ON as well.

Its also uses IOS232

Im confused ere , if im using 3.2u softmod, Do i use this way to make GH5 disc game to run ? (as below)
Isit IOS232 or IOS223 ? (confused)

And do i need to brickblock this game before burning ? (sorry im new)

It apparently does work, though. I've been having this problem, as well, I finally got it running, only to have the guitar not work at all. The wiimote and mic work excellently, and that's fun, but it's GUITAR hero for a reason. But a thread in another section of this board claims that the Frontman is indeed working with GH5.

I've searched but can't find the thread. Can you point it out? Does it offer any solutions?

Got it going after 5-10 minutes of fiddling..

4.1U (waninkoko update)
USBLoader GX (r715)
cIOS38 rev 14

Hermes 222 merged with IOS60 & 36
Hermes 223 merged with IOS60 & 36
Hermes 223 as 37/36

USBLoader GX settings:
Game Load > 223


Note: also installed IOS56-64-v5146.wad although I'm not sure I needed to.

No sync issues other than the fact I suck at GH.

Have to say that I'm using GX and didn't need to do that. Just installed 223 as 37 merged with 36 and then set the game settings for GH5 (not the default for all games) to use 223.

First I would like to thank everyone for all the good input. I am hoping someone can answer my question. I have 4.1U softmodded and using Custom IOS38 Rev14. According to DOPIOS all of my IOS files are current. When I run multicios installer to install IOS37 with IOS37 rev7 dip as IOS 232 it downloads 15 files then returns a -1017 error and returns to HBC. I have tried several times with the same result. I have even tried installing IOS37 as IOS248, only to get the same error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry dudes, don't know what to say, did the same as you but it went through fine with no error. Is there a more up to date multicios maybe?

This is the guide I followed and the files I used with no issue's, I'm using 4.0U with a Wiikey 1 and using the HBC for this method -

I did all that this post said. I was running IOS249 now I am running IOS61 v19.26 and now none of my games work! Could someone possibly help me get back to where I previously was?

As I don't use a hard drive to store my games, but burned Dvd's, I tried your solution and It worked perfectly.
I'm using a Pal WII / 3.2E / 100% softmod no additional chip

Try installing the files from this small (8MB) download

Installed it myself on our PAL wii with zero issues, Guitar Hero 5 now works where before I was getting the blank screen as well. I also tried another different GH5 from another group with the exact same blank screen

Includes all needed files and a short guide on how to install what to where, as long as you have an SD card thats all you need. No 'net access required as I've also included the files you need to update one of the IOS files, its an all offline installation now

Added the needed IOS56 WAD that the game apparently wants to update as the game also needs this to run, but quite a few have fears of it bricking their Wii as its an NTSC game. I personally use BrickBlocker and RegionFrii on ALL import games, so play USA and JAP games with no worries on our PAL console


The WAD file was ripped from the NTSC GH5 ISO using Wii Scrubber and was then installed on our PAL Wii with no issues at all, just use any WAD manager to install it via the HomeBrew Channel

i get it running like this, but then when i go back into the usb loader to run the game again i get black screen. i then need to run Hermes 222 37&36 merged to get it running again which is strange

Hi all - long time reader, first time poster. Very handy forums - thought I would contribute and share my experience with Guitar Hero 5 and running from USB.

My successful method of loading Guitar Hero 5 using USB Loader GX, specs;

cIOS 249 (rev 14)
Hermes 222 (as IOS36)
Hermes 223 (as IOS37 merged with IOS36)
USB Loader GX rev 600
System Menu 3.4E

Gameload settings in USB Loader GX;

Disc Load: AutoPatch
cIOS: 223
Error 002 fix: ON

PS - just read madnlooney's last post. I also had the issue that I had to reboot the Wii to load Guitar Hero 5 again. Otherwise I just got a black screen.
