Gaming Great laptop?

Frankly, if you'll be buying in three months - ask in two, not now. The prices and availability tend to jump a lot.

I know, just wanted to get some ideas of what I want.

My 701 is overclocked and has quadruple the default RAM.

And oh, Scorpei, auto-dimming LCD with led background and a backlit keyboard? Both absolutely fabulous features. I love my auto-dimming 22 inch desktop display to bits.

And I normally work with boxes such as the Dell Inspiron 8000 or the Compaq Armada E500. So I tend to know how to optimize these systems for relatively modern games and can extract plenty of power from them.

Regardless if you overclock it you are stuck with an 900-1100MHz proc and worse a GMA9X0.

It would have a better chance of running far cry 2 or COD 4 then crysis. Have you tried running crysis? Its ridiculous my laptop runs Call of Duty WAW and Far CRY 2 maxed out with no problems, and Crysis runs like crap even on medium/low settings.

Quick question that has kinda something to do with the topic...

I just purchased the Vostro 1310 laptop. business class 13.3 inch just for school work and programming. NO GAMES.

It has the X3100 media built in graphics and it has 3GB of Ram. I opted for Windows XP Pro instead of Vista (who wouldnt?).

I am aware that XP 32-bit can handle no more than 3GB, but if I install 4GB, will it help to speed anything up, mainly the Graphics accelerator? Or will the system not recognize it at all, including shared graphics?

@suppachipmunk: no it won't. ur motherboard wouldn't recognize it. how bout u install xp pro 64 bit (if your hardware permits of course)

that's true, and I had considered it. But I wasnt sure as to whether Visual Studios C# 32-bit and 64-bit are compatible. My Professor wants us all using the same version because he said that there was incompatibilities going from one version to the next. I know he was speaking of 2005 and 2008 VS C#, but wasnt sure about the 32-bit or 64-bit aspect.

Edit: Apparently there is only a 32-bit version of VS Pro available and it will run on both 32bit and 64bit, but the 64bit is really really slow from what I have read. I may just stick with 32bit until the end of the semester.
I also have to use SQL Server 2005.

Base specs are P8400 2.26Ghz Core2Duo, 4GB ram, 9400m g (Same one in 13" unibody macbook), 320GB HDD, 64-bit Vista, all for $1,199. You can switch to a dedicated graphics card, and there's also a WLED screen option if you don't want LCD. There are 13" and 16" models.
