It's like every time I come here to check out some amazing progress into Switch hacking there is drama happening. Back in the NDS, 3DS and Wii U days it felt like the entire community was working together and sharing ideas, but I come on the Switch hacking and it's all competition and the one trying to make the other look bad.
What gives?
What's with all the great hostility?
Is it me or is there very little comradery in the Switch hacking scene?

The WiiU and 3DS certainly had some nasty periods, but yeah, switch scene is in a bit of a rough patch.
Though with time I'm sure things will calm down again like those other scenes did in later years.

Edit: Now that I think about it, those other scenes probably calmed down because the toxicity moved into the newer switch scene.

funny, that's what I always saw the 3DS scene when it was active.
the easier it is to hack, the worse it is with people.

I think when it was hard, and expensive to hack and launch homebrew (gba time in 2001), we had only people who had enough knowledge and time doing it. now everybody want his own, even kids younger than 10yo give their view and expect everything done for them on silver's plate.

The Switch is so easy to hack, then? I thought it greatly improved its security measures over the 3DS.
I mean, sure, it got hacked way sooner than the 3DS, but I chalked that up to the skill and competence of the hackers and coders.

It did greatly improve over the 3DS. If you're interested, some of the swithbrew folks did a presentation on it at 34c3 a while back.
You can learn about some of the improvements from there:

here what you need to hack the switch :

you just need to shortcut 2 pads on your joycon port.
it's a bug in nvidia chipset, not nintendo's fault.

Right, yeah, I remember seeing a YouTube video demonstrating that, but I was like "it can't be just that easy, can it!?"

Thanks! I'll check that video out! I always love learning about the various technical aspects.

It's not just you. The switch scene is pretty cancerous at the moment. Especially with the reswitched crap that went on
Yeah, I heard some things about ReSwitched but I haven't actually bothered putting any research into it since I didn't want to join some toxic parade.
In short, what happened?

I think the opposite, if it is easier, less people will complain, as in just follow this steps, put your games in there, and play, without worring who made those tools. Much people will never be back to the scene pages or comments or anything if it just works every time.

Now all is about secrecy, drama, code stealing, and waiting for "soon" releases... my opinion is that the money involved is what causing all this problems and the "antipiracy" positions that everyone knows isnt moral but future proof protection.

this will not will not hack your switch, but merely enter you into rcm. a lot of very hard work went into the software portion, i believe.

oh dear now im being toxic

Wait, there is money involved? I thought only one group wanted money and only because you needed to get some hardware to make it work.

yes, of course the software part takes time.
I think it might be why people are in hurry, they could already enter RCM, but didn't have proper tools to use with.
Well, now there are hekate, SX, reiNX, etc. but people always want more, and faster.

that's maybe not the part of the drama he mentioned.

Sciresm banned a member of the team over something small that wasn't even intended to be hurtful. He did this without asking or consulting the rest of the team

The paid cfw your thinking of is SX os. The licence to use it is about $25, and they sell a dongle that makes injecting the payload easier

even reswitched developers get some money i guess. its at no cost to the average user. burning bugs, patreon donations, and the intangibles like notoriety leading to job offers and such. there is also the opportunity to betray your team like that 3ds guy and sell their hard word to a flash card company.
