Hardware Got a new SD card, dumb question

So i currently have a 128 GB sd card, bought a new 256 card online that just arrived today. would a copy and paste job be good enough to transfer everything or do i need to do anything special to the card first? like put it in my switch while its empty and then copy everything?

i should add i have SX OS installed on my card.

my guess u are using emunand then if you want to transfer that without backup saves and create a new one then.

you need to use a backup program to backup the card by sector by sector process then restore to the new card then expand the fat32 partition to the new size

nothing special, just copy and paste. test if the sd card is legit first with h2testw. the card needs to be empty for that. once you've confirmed its veracity, copy and paste everything from the original card to the new one. I did this with a 400GB to 512GB card, and more recently, 512GB to 1TB.
