Google Play game services announced

Google Play for iOS, Android goes live. Achievements, online multiplayer, cloud services: available. Google announced the following games that will be launched that are already on Android devices: World of Goo, Beach Buggy Blitz, Kingdom Rush,Eternity Warriors 2 and Osmos.

Although I wanted Angry Birds to appear. But that's alright. Anyway, this is a nice production from Google.

Is this like an equivalent to iphone's Gamecenter app thing? Cause that always made it easy to find my friends and keep up with their scores and achievements.
