First it predicts our search queries, then it ends up predicting our life choices. Though it is a very convenient way of searching for things now, albeit inappropriate and frustrating at times.

This. I also hate how they show results for things you didn't searched for and when you enter many terms, they end up choosing one or two of them and show the results. I want my search engine to show exactly what i searched for and if they don't find anything, shows the "no results found" message.

Example: searching for "caterpillar" would begin first showing search results for "cat". Completely irrelevant search results!

Auto complete on the other hand is useful, because quite often you can find the search phrase you're looking for by pressing down a few times. But search results springing up for an incomplete search term? What's the point?

I don't like it. There's no point of it because if I'm typing a question, one of the first things it shows is, "How to get rid of Fleas" when I was trying to type, "How to get Sten's approval" -_-

The two aren't related.

Google can't translate and it sucks at being psychic.

I think I'm in agreement here, though I haven't had a chance to try it yet. It may prove useful, but I would think that it is just sending lots of unnecessary AJAX requests in the background. Ultimately making Google a little slower especially on older computers. I mean how hard is it to press return if your fingers are already on the keys?

edit: seems fast after loading it and looking at it, but it just seems a bit silly to me.

I've been there, I've enabled it at google.com/instant, and I've tried these supposed direct links.

Google.com/instant says it works for Firefox 3.0 but makes no mention of 4.0.

Oh I thought it was behaving weirdly last night, I've been away for a few days so I wondered if it was just me, lol.

I'm going to give it a chance for a bit but I'm not convinced, it's really annoying when it starts throwing up pointless hits based on half of your search terms. Bit of a waste really.

IMO the point is to show you additional ads on the page - say, like show not one page (with ads) for every search, but several. More ads - more money for Google.

P.S. It does work on Firefox 4b4. Turning it off now - useless and slows thing down. Like their image search that almost kills Google's Chromium, ironically (200MB RAM for just one tab).
