The DS will definitely live alongside the 3DS for quite sometime. It's a very installed market, and since everyone and their sister has a DS these days, there's still tons of opportunity to sell lots of units... At least to the ones who don't pirate.

The PS2 still sold well depsite the PS3 release. It all comes down to price...

I'd expect a price cut, and then the continued selling of the DSi/ DSi XL. I have a feeling Nintendo may ditch the DS Lite though.

The only reason is because there is no ps2 BC with the PS3, and I know Nintendo won't pull DS support.

At first there was, and yes, IMO, the DS will die almost instantly when the 3DS comes out.

there is still the case of 3ds games coming to ds without the 3d
sort of like down graded ps3 games for the ps2
the ps2 is still getting new games so there is a lot of hope with the ds for another 3-5 years untill all game production ends.

Doesn't matter, the DS had a very long lifespan that's longer than any other handheld, complete with not one but three revisions. I'm not really sad to see it go, since the successor will have backwards compatibility (but it it blocks DS flash carts then I'm sticking with my DS).

A-f*cking-men.
It's so bad right now that I can't even imagine buying the console. When it gets released, I'll feel like a crackhead with no money to buy his fix.

gee. the DS's game library will surely live on. The releases will prob slow down until the full transition to 3DS completes. But just like people wanting to play GB/GBC/GBA games on the DS before, surely they will want to play DS games on 3DS too, which shouldn't be a big problem.

IMO, the DS will die to us, consumers, but not to Nintendo, as they probably will launch a new revision to make cash in with a last version of the DS.

When the PS3 was released(remember, the price was outrageous) the PS2 still had support and releases of games unlike the Wii, Xbox.

By the time the DS is released, I plan on having a nice stable source of income that I can rely on and as such will have no need for a flashcart. Just like the GBA before it, I can see Nintendo attempting the "These aren't REALLY competing hardwares" but then the 3DS becomes the clear favourite in the eyes of the developers.

Certainly, with the OoT fanservice/remake they've already captured the hearts of the fans, along with the rest of the stuff they're dragging out.
