The Wii-Boss team recently made the following announcement:
We have reports of wii-boss working fine with the new d2c model and the infamous v3.0 firmware
It appears that the wii tries to send some data across the “top secret serial port” and it inadvertently erases eeprom data on the chip on these models
Easy Fixed: Simply reprogram your wii-boss with the supplied free JDM programmer afterwards!
If they are correct it would mean that not just Wii-Boss but most current modchips could work with the D2C chip.
