The 2 Shin Megami Tensai's are great time sinks (one's a port).

oohhh, And Moster Hunter and Pilotwings of course :)

Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Kirby Triple Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Mario Kart 7, Super Smash Bros. (if you do not have access to Wii U version), Donkey Kong Country Returns (if you've not played the Wii version) or Pokemon X/Y since it seems like you like Nintendo first party titles.

Broooooooo check out Castlevania Mirror of Fate or Mirrors whatever its called... Its badass

Sorry "Broooooooo" but Castlevania is dead on the 3DS unless they revive the Metroid-Vania style or make a sequel to Symphony of the Night on the 3DS.

It seems to me that you like the Cartoon-y/Cute/Casual Kind of games.
(which are similar preferences to me)

Oh well, here are some of my recommendations

1. Fantasy Life with DLC
---> Best Time Sinker there is, very lovable
I already sank 110 hours and I'm not yet Creator in all ranks.
DLC suggested, adds massive contents.
2. Animal Crossing
---> Just lovable and cute. Eats your life away.
3. Pokemon X or Y
---> Just recommending another Pokemon
4. Kid Icarus: Uprising
---> 3rd Person shooter, kinda hilarious and time sinker too.
It just takes a while to learn its control scheme.
5. Mario Kart 7
---> Multiplayer Online

Nemix77, kirekun and LittleFlame's answers, plus the two Zeldas from N64: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (if you haven't played them). If you want RPG's, you also have Bravely Default and Tales of the Abyss (which is a remake of a PS2 game).

Don't use the list of "essentials" as it is biased towards the older 3DS games.

I personally really like Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies.
I would also suggest Animal Crossing: New Leaf or one of the Pokemon games.

You seem to like platform games, try Jett Rocket II on the eshop it has parts of side scrolling action and parts of platforming, I liked it very much. Also if you like metroidvania style there's a nice little game on the eshop as well called Bloody Vampire that's much fun.

I remember Yoshi's New Island was a really good game. Only a little too much like the SNES game it takes from, but still fantastic
