Homebrew Godmode9 won't boot using start and power button, help!?

I have been following this guide -> https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup - to hack my 3DS XL, everything was going fine (I have done this before on 2 other devices) but godmode9 won't seem to work when I press start and the power button. I am greeted with a black screen and I have to hold the power button for some time to turn it off. I am not sure what the problem is but I feel like maybe the godmode9 file provided is old or new/ has a bug? if someone can assist me I'd appreciate it.
