Hacking geex box question

is the wii capable of playing x264 video files?

I thought i saw a youtube video of somebody playing a 720p x264 video file using geexbox. could this video have been real?

yes mate it plays them just fine might get a cache lag but thats it i play hd rips all the time

as far as it seems it can't... even mid resolution ones (720 x 408 for example) plays crappy at the moment..

thanks for the help. if i just wanted to play xvids with geexbox do i need to convert them or do anything special to get them to play?

You don't need to convert most of them... just try and decide for yourself... some high res ones may not play at a decent frame rate though
