Is there any way to check how many matches you've had?

Im pretty sure this is how you do it:

At the Main Menu go to the folder icon, then you go to the Quill looking thing, then the 123 one. It should be the 10th one down im pretty sure its that one cause mines 58 and I unlocked Falco I few fights ago. Hope that helps!

Secrets

Selecting Zero Suit Samus

To use Zero Suit Samus at the start of a match, select Samus on the character screen and hold the following button before the match starts with the corresponding controller that is being used:

Gamecube/Classic controller: Hold the R button
Wii Remote with Nunchuk: Hold the Z button
Wii Remote: Hold the Minus (-) button

Btw, havnt tried it yet. But does classic mode crash at the end credits or can you somehow skip the credits to avoid crashing?

it crashed when i did it cause its loading the movie and then it crashes.So i dont think you will be able to skip.

It's weird, it seems like I've met some of the criteria mentioned but things haven't unlocked. I think this is still a guessing game right now...

... sigh. As far as I can tell Every Character can be unlocked with vs mode. I just spent like 5 hours playing versus mode with three friends. We unlocked...
(In order of unlock)

Ness
Marth
Luigi
Snake
Falco
C. Falcon
Lucario
Sonic
R.O.B

So seeing as we got all these characters through pure multiplayer battles, I'm sure you can unlock them all this way. (my assumption anyways)

When I do it on my system, I'll mark how many vs plays it takes. Also snake was the "Play Shadow Moses 10 times" thing.

I was stuck on that for ages. You just have to wait survive long enough till all 5 of your pikmin grow flowers on their head. Its easier then you think. ^^
