Dear Tempers, on behalf of the staff let me wish you again an excellent happy new year 2011!
As you know we at GBAtemp are always hard at work to provide you with major website or network updates, or simply to move along with the times. Before we discuss the future I would like to mention a brief history of the major changes brought in during the past couple of years.
GBAtemp 2007: creation of WikiTemp, the GBAtemp Wiki, now holding over 2,400 pages and nearly 5,000 contributors.
GBAtemp 2008: a variety of new site features among which the picture upload service, the Blogs, an integrated download center, a shoutbox, an IRC server and much more that contributed to shaping the community that we form today.
GBAtemp 2009: creation of FileTrip.net, a full-fledged download center now serving nearly 17,000 files with over 34M page views.
GBAtemp 2010: relaunch of the Homebrew Bounty with over $3000 in donations so far and more to come. Launch of Ask GBAtemp, a placeholder for the community to answer all your questions. Announcement of ShopTemp.com, our recommended place for flashcart and gaming accessories, coming with its dedicated discussion forum. Unfortunately it had to close late 2010 for various reasons.
Year 2011 on GBAtemp will probably be one of the most exciting years we've ever had, thanks to the amazing changes and new features we will be bringing to the GBAtemp Network. I cannot say much for now but some of those changes will come sooner than you think.
1) People have been speculating on a possible new IPB skin because of the hint we left in the Supercard DSTWO GBAtemp Edition announcement. While I cannot say much more right now, I can tell you that no, we are not currently working on a new skin. We are working on something a lot bigger than just a new skin.
2) The rebirth of ShopTemp is just around the corner. We are very excited about this and we can't wait to present this new project to you. Unlike other features that have been kept secret until their release, we will be fully disclosing the project before it is entirely finished because we need your input, your suggestions and your criticism. ShopTemp, as we stated before, will no longer be a shop. It will be a community-driven website, fully integrated to the GBAtemp community. And all we can say is: it will be loads better than the old one, and will benefit everyone! Want to know more? Be patient, a second announcement will be made in the coming days!
3) Since we no longer have a shop to host our plans of GBAtemp branded merchandise, we will be opening our own GBAtemp merchandise store that will carry all sorts of awesome goodies, from t-shirts (from our last competition winners, but also with fresh new designs) to mouse pads, from magic mugs to... thongs!? We will also be making this a community-driven store by listening to your suggestions of products and hosting your custom designs. You can even start telling us your ideas now!
This is only a glimpse of what's coming this year. There will be more surprises, events, features, bonuses, competitions, announcements coming all throughout the year. Let's make 2011 the best year ever on GBAtemp!
