Hey guys!

I really want to play GBA games on my 3DS but mGBA has these sound and lag problems. I don't know if I'm using an older version of mGBA or if it's the emulator itself. Anyways does anyone know other Emus besides mGBA which works fine? I have an N3DS without any CFW or anything else so Custom Virtual Consoles or injecting ROMs shouldn't work. Thanks!

Have you tried the retroarch cores? (Also if you are 10.7 or below you can downgrade then install .cias)

I heared about these cores but I seriously don't know where I download and how I "install" them. And no I updated it back when I didn't know about ctr-httpwn to play online so I'm on 11.0. If I can't find something I'll have to wait for someone to install CFW on my 3DS. :/

You download the 3dsx zip and put them in the 3ds folder like any other homebrew. It isn't that hard.

go with the stables. The nightlies are unpredictable. Also I have found the retroarch gpsp to work better than mgba, even on O3ds. However, performance on both depends on the game you are playing.

you aren't going to get anywhere near full speed without cfw. also, you install them just like you install mgba. download everything as .3dsx and run it from homebrew launcher. I would reccomend trying out gpsp it works really well. (if there is screen tearing, go to version 1.3.3 stable)

Go with VC injections for now. Retroarch gPSP still has unfixed issues with the dynarec which causes a lot of random crashing, so much that it's not really usable right now imo.

Can't wait for a full-featured GBA emulation solution on 3DS that actually works...

If you are on retroarch turn the sound off and it should speed up to about 30fps on a non cfw sysnand. If you upgrade to a cfw it goes to about 60fps or above since it turns the safety restriction off or you can inject them and they run natively.

Still need help installing GBA games on my o3DS. I get the "Error has occurred" message on the bottom screen if I launch an installed GBA game and I did patch the ABG_Firm but that didn't seem to do anything at all.

If you are using emunand, the game needs to be installed on both sysnand and emunand

Are you using luma3ds? If so you shouldn't patch AGB_firm. It auto patches it. If you are still using emunand (Which you really shouldn't considering how easy it is to install a9lh is now) you will need to install the .cia files to emunand and sysnand.

Honestly mGBA is one of the best, IMO. Maybe not for n3DS but on o3DS I got a steady 29-30 FPS running games like Mario Kart and Earthbound. It did have issues with games that used a specialFX chip, though.

I have found gpsp can give you 60fps on games like pokemon titles. Dont know about others.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
