Hacking GBA cheat system on M3 REAL

I do not get how to work the gba cheat system, plz help!
-Me and my roomate are stressing how to get it to work! We are puzzled, can anybody explain?

It works similar to the NDS cheats. Just select the cheat file for that game and before the game loads the cheat options will pop up and ask you which cheat you wish to activate.

I read somewhere that you have to select the correct individual cheat file from the cheat folder for the GBA games.
EG if golden sun was release 1161 you would look in the folder for 1161 and pick that cheat file when selecting Golden Sun...
