Hacking GBA Backup tool compatibility?

hello first time posting here.
I bought a R4i Gold 3ds from NDS-card.com yesterday. Going to take a while to arrive, but thought I ask while I wait.
I'm quite new to this website, and was wondering if I could use the GBA backup tool I heard about with this flash cartridge to backup my pokemon Emerald/firered/leafgreen save files.
Also I'm new to flashcarts, so I'm not sure how you would transfer. would you just transfer to a micro sd card to use the backup tool or other nds files?

Saves would transfer as a .sav file or equivalent.

It works with almost every flash cart. You just need a normal DS or DS Lite. Those are the ones that only have the gba slots.
