Hacking Gateway / cubic ninja QR code

Hello,
I have a new 3DS XL in 9.6 and with cubic ninja I scan the QR code on gateway web site
on my screen I just can see "Installing Exploit..."
what does it mean ?

You can't use Gateway on 9.6. You have to downgrade if you want to use it.

ok, but what's this exploit doing ?
is it the 'gateway sysnand mode' of the sysupdater warning message ?
