You can use ARM9Loader Hax to cold boot into AuReiNAND which uses your Gateway's NAND. You wouldn't have the red card functionality, but you'd be able to boot CIA's

If you wanted to then boot into Gateway emuNAND for the red card, you could boot into it from the Homebrew launcher

Just install menuhax + CtrBootManager. Place the Gateway.3dsx into the folder called 3ds with the other homebrews. Boot your console into CTR and select Gateway.3dsx as default booting choice. In this way you'll still be able to use .3ds/.3dz files with your GW.

Homebrew Launcher (need it to install menuhax)

CtrBootManager:

Thats exactly what I do, I turn it on and after a few seconds im in GW emuNand

I'm guessing I fucked up. These are my exact steps.

Installed Homebrew and menuhax
Put CTR's boot.cfg and boot.3dsx files in root
Put GW.3dsx in the 3ds folder
Launched Homebrew through Browser and a thing booted automatically which I suppose was CTR (everything was very flickery).
Set GW.3dsx as default booting choice.
Launched and black screen.
Rebooted, tried to relaunch Homebrew through Browser and it freezes.

Delete the files called "boot.3dsx", "boot.cfg" that you already have on your SD
Download this package and extract it into the root of your SD.
On your SD card, look for the file which name starts with "ropbinpayload". Open it with HxD
Press CTRL+F and search for boot.3dsx. There will be two results.
Rename them into auto.3dsx
OFC then you have to setup again the Gateway.3dsx as default entry point with CtrBootManager

Done, but how exactly do I boot CtrBootManager? There are the two boot files for it, where do they go?

just place all the 3 files of the package that I've linked you on the root your SD, overwrite/delete the older ones. Then, if you have already installed menuhax you should find a file on the root of your sd which his name start with ropbinpayload. Open it with an hexeditor like HxD and search boot.3dsx. You'll have 2 results. Change these results from "boot.3dsx" to "auto.3dsx" (without ""). Save and exit. Reinsert the sd back to your 3ds and turn it on holding the select buttom. You should launch CtrBootManager. From there, setup as default entry point Gateway.3dsx and try to reboot your console to see if it works properly.

Now on boot by pressing L it just freezes, the top screen is all fuzzy and the lower screen is plain white.

Err: Couldn't open rxTools/sys/blabla

Press any key to continue... and it freezes. How do I tell him to pick GW.3dsx?

Ok great works. So I turn on, hold L and I'm in Gateway emu correct? Thank you both for the patience.

yes go to settings, set the timeout to 0 and default Gateway (or whatever you named it) with boot fix set to 0 as well.
