Hi there. I know this is being updated but can I ask? I just bought a 3DS last 2 weeks and I am planning on purchasing Gateway 3DS. However, I really don't get about the 4.5 and 7.1 thingy (I'm new to this sorry) so is it possible that I can make the Gateway 3DS work on my 3DS even if my firmware is 7.1 already? I just checked my 3DS's firmware and it's already at 7.1.

It is impossible that you can make the Gateway 3DS work on your 3DS now.

Worth mentioning that patches can only be downloaded for games that match the console's region?

As mentioned above, Gateway 3DS functions related 3DS games/roms,are based on V4.1-V4.5,
So, other players want to buy 3DS consoles, please check&confirm with the sellers first,
to make sure they can send a V4.1-V4.5 console.

For your V7.1 3ds,now, you can only use a DSTwo or R4i gold 3ds to run NDS, GBA games.

When Gateway 3ds or MT Card passed V7.1 ,it is not too late to order.

I lel'ed at this, what it means is that when you first turn on your 3DS system it has to say 4.X , meaning a firmware that's not higher than 4, the 7.1 part comes in when you put the gateway card in the 3DS and boot into gateway mode then you can update the 3ds to 7.1, but theres a new firmware out 7.2 which you don't want to update to ( which I did accidently so don't feel too bad) so your 3ds has 4.X and your Gateway NAND is 7.1, im guessing your console was already on 7.1 when you bought it because if you updated it would be on 7.2, just box it back up and see if you can get a refund, go on ebay and type in "3DS Gateway" and a whole bunch of 3DS/XL's will come up with 4.X firmware, That's my solution for you, if not you'll have to wait till Gateway releases an Update for 7.1 FW, which I think is going to take quite awhile.
